Only here 2.5 weeks and already off to get medical help!

Bryson came down with what I thought was food poisoning and teething problems....ohhh no, a few days of terrible diapers, fever and throwing up lead us to rush him to Ho Chi Minh City for medical help! Poor little guy. He is so tough.
We had just met some new friends and were hanging out at their house Friday night while all the kids were playing. It was the first time in 2.5 weeks that I could speak fluent English to someone and was REALLY enjoying it! Well, we had just ordered pizza when I decided to feed Bryson a little snack to tie him over and then....BLAAAHHHH, all over me and him!! It was so embarrassing to have that happen at the dinner table in front of my new friends. This happened to be the 2nd time he had thrown up in a few days along with diarrea issues, so we knew we had a problem. We immediately took him to the local SOS clinic (which we have heard horrible things about but it was open 24 hrs and it was 8 pm.). Like everyone had told us, it was terrible so we headed back to our apartment to get a change of clothes and off we were to Ho Chi Minh City to get good medical care. HCMC is 3 hours away and not a smooth ride. The roads are horrible with potholes, dirt roads and crazy drivers. I might add that it was dark and raining too!

We get there and were immediately taken care of and I couldn't have been more delighted. They tested Bryson and discovered that he had the Rotavirus. Apparently every child gets it by the time they are 5 yrs. and in the States most kids get the vaccine, us included. It is commonly referred to as the stomach flu. The problem is that with babies under 2, they can get very dehydrated which then can be life threatening. We were watching him pretty close but he was still dehydrated and had to be on an IV for 14 hours. My poor little guy was stuck to a bed that long with an IV but was a trouper!! He did great and are thankful we decided to take him in the middle of the night.

So for all you mothers out there, the Rotarix vaccine is NOT 100% effective! After doing much research, some say that it helps prevent and reduce the severity of the symptoms...so which one is it? Obviously none of the above for Bryson. There are 4 or 5 types of this virus so maybe we ended up getting the least common one...who knows. I am just glad my baby is doing fine and is happy! Let's hope we get to start having a little fun now!
